Many IMS students take advantage of having a piano lesson during the school day. The IMS piano studio is located on the north end of the first floor of the new addition. If you have never been inside this space, you are invited to visit at any time. Four practice rooms situated in the same wing give pianists and other musicians a place to rehearse in preparation for lessons as well as symphonic band and choir.
Kaylee Fiegenspan is the new occupant of our piano studio and offers lessons to our students and students in the community from her space at IMS.
Kaylee is from Kalona, Iowa, and began studying piano at the age of seven. During high school, she was a piano student of Susan See. While studying with Mrs. See, Kaylee was selected by competitive audition to receive the Truman State University Piano Fellowship, a four-year full tuition award that was first started in 1984 by President Emeritus, Dr. Charles McClain. At Truman, she studied under the direction of Dr. David McKamie. During her time at Truman, Kaylee was the recipient of numerous awards. In the fall of 2016, she was selected as one of three winners for the Truman State Gold Medal Concerto competition, and had the opportunity to perform with the Truman State University Symphony Orchestra in the spring of 2017. Kaylee was also selected as the recipient of the Presser Scholar award in the spring of her junior year. During her senior year, Kaylee recieved the MFMC Blaser Piano Rotating Award and was selected as the Outstanding Performance Major of 2018. In May of 2018, Kaylee graduated from Truman State University with top honors.
After graduation, Kaylee returned home and married her best friend, Ty, before opening a piano studio in her home. Soon after this, she was offered a position at Iowa Mennonite High School (IMS) to be the resident piano instructor. This spring, Kaylee is looking forward to the new opportunities that IMS has to offer, as well as continuing with her students at home.
In her free time, Kaylee enjoys playing music with her husband or working on house projects together. Her other favorites include the outdoors, roses, puzzles, and a hot cup of tea. More information can be found on her website https://kayleefeigenspan.weebly.com/
