IMS Softball Defeated by Highland Huskies 17-0

The rain held off one night to allow the IMS softball team to take on the Highland Huskies in the season opener last Monday night. IMS graduated four seniors last year, leaving large holes to fill, including the pitching and catching positions. This is a rebuilding year for the team as only three returning starters played in familiar positions. As a result, IMS struggled in the field. Highland scored four runs in the first two innings, then exploded for 13 unearned runs in the third to end the game after three complete innings. Leah Bontrager pitched her first game of the season for IMS. The freshman gave up nine hits, six walks, had three strikeouts and yielded only four earned runs.

Suzanna Yoder tripled to right centerfield and scored twice to lead IMS. Rubye Ney singled and scored one run. Sarah Miller, Leah Bontrager, Meredith Blossom and Norah Yoder all had singles. Bontrager and Yoder each pitched for IMS with Bontrager taking the loss. Pekin had 18 hits and 19 earned runs. IMS ended the night with six hits.
