After going to overtime the night before, IMS made the trek to West Point to play Holy Trinity Tuesday night. Despite some tired legs and illness, IMS pieced together a strong performance to claim a 3-1 win.
It took the offense a while to get on track as the team adjusted to the wide field. About 30 minutes through the first period Cody Jones sent a ball to Jacob Boller who beat a defender before sticking the ball into the corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead.
The IMS back line of Kobe Borntrager, Eli Ours, Jorge Canchola and Noah Miller successfully shut down Holy Trinity much of the half limiting their chances while Blake Bontrager gathered in the shots Holy Trinity got off. Missing one player and with a couple of others banged up from the night before, guys filled in at different spots allowing IMS to take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half Holy Trinity changed their point of attack and after making a push into the penalty box were awarded a penalty kick after their player was knocked down. Blake Bontrager made the save on the penalty kick but the ball rebounded directly to the kicker who put it to the other corner to tie the game 12 minutes into the second half.
IMS responded three minutes later after Cody Jones put a ball into the box. The ball pin-balled around as several guys tried to knock the ball by the goalie before Louis Etienne got his foot on the ball to push it across the line. IMS picked up the insurance goal from Brian Maren with 4 minutes remaining. Once again it was a ball which ricocheted around before Brian was able to poke it by the goalie.
IMS moves to 3-1 and returns to action Tuesday, April 16 in Mediapolis.
