The IMS Boys and Girls golf teams got underway this past week after a delayed start to the golf season heading to Twin Lakes Golf Course to compete with Winfield-Mt Union for a SEISC meet Thursday, Apr 4. After several consecutive trips to state, the experienced WMU boys won the meet easily 178-219, however London Schrock finished as runner-up medalist with a 45 in the chilly conditions.

The WMU girls won the meet shooting a 237 as IMS had no team score (4 golfer combined score). Kennedy Roth, the lone IMS golfer, competed and shot an 81.

On Apr 6, the boys headed to Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Morning Sun for a four team Mediapolis Invite on a beautiful Saturday morning in early April. IMS finished in 2nd place with an 18 hole score of 384 behind Central Lee’s 356. Trevor Leyden’s score of 83 was good enough for runner-up medalist.

Coach Steve Nelson said this, “Spring in Iowa is unpredictable. After a cold and snowy winter the courses are just opening and barely ready for golf. Despite our lack of practice, there is much to be excited about for the season. London’s 45 at Winfield was great in his first meet of the year in poor conditions. The 384 boys team score at Heritage Oaks is one of our best 18 hole team scores in recent years. This team has the potential to be very competitive this year in the conference and in class 1A. I really look forward to see the growth in some of the younger guys and to see Trevor bring his senior leadership and compete at a high level.”
