Five members of the Iowa Mennonite boy’s track and field team kicked off the competitive season by competing at the Central College indoor meet March 15 in Pella. The indoor venue features a 200-meter oval and three of the four field events that are normally competed in the outdoor meets. The large meet also features a shortened order of events. No team scores are kept. John Hughes and Toby Chen raced the 60-meter homestretch in times of 8.02 and 8.22 seconds respectively. Aaron Hershberger raced the same straightaway with the addition of five hurdles in 11.26 seconds. Toby Chen and Colby Harris competed in the one-lap 200-meter dash. Their times were 26.40 and 26.62 respectively. Brian Nchoe ran the four-lap 800-meter race in 2:26.61 in his first track race ever. Chen, Hershberger, Hughes, and Harris teamed up for the 4 x 200-meter relay finishing in 1:49.38 for forty-sixth place. Hershberger, Hughes, Harris, and Nchoe ran the 4 x 400-meter relay in 4:08.15 for forty-third place. The team will begin its outdoor season April 1 in Williamsburg.
