IMS took to the road Friday and defeated the Wolves of Winfield-Mt Union 57-34 to complete the sweep, following the JV Boys and Varsity Girls victories. IMS led 11-6 after one quarter and led 17-6 three minutes into the second frame before Winfield fought back. The Wolves cut it to 26-21 at the half. The game remained fairly even through the third quarter, as IMS led 40-33 heading into the final stanza. The fourth quarter belonged to IMS, as the visitors outscored the Wolves 17-1 in the frame for the win.
Jeremy Niemeyer scored 13 points and collected eight rebounds and Eli Ours had 11 points and four steals. Trevor Leyden scored eight points with three rebounds and two steals, and Cody Jones added seven points, three assists and two steals. Caleb Gingerich recorded six points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, and Kobe Borntrager totaled six points, two assists and two steals. Blake Bontrager added four points and Noah Miller completed the scoring with two points.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said “our defense had to work so hard, as Winfield was very patient, taking time on each possession to run through their offense. Fortunately for us, we shot 51 percent from the floor, which we needed in a lower possession game like this.”
IMS goes to 4-2 on the season and in conference play, and next plays on Alumni Night Tuesday as IMS hosts Columbus.
