IMS started district play Tuesday evening against Keota. Keota took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before IMS came back with 5 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by triples by London Schrock and Reggie Borntrager. IMS scored one run in the 2nd and three more runs in the third to take a 9-4 lead after 3 innings of play. Reggie Borntrager added a 2-run homerun in the fourth inning to extend the IMS lead to 11-4. Keota came back with 3 runs in the fifth inning to make the score 11-7 before IMS added 3 runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth inning, highlighted by a 2 RBI single by Eli Ours, making the score 14-7. Ours added another 2 RBI single in the sixth inning to make the final score 16-7. Trevor Leyden got the win on the mound for IMS.
IMS traveled to New London to face the 8th ranked Tigers Thursday evening in a District semi-final match-up. IMS got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning when Cole Ours scored on a RBI double by Trevor Leyden. New London came back with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. IMS got the lead back in the top of the second inning scoring 2 runs on a 2 RBI single by Jacob Boller. IMS added another run in the third inning as Eli Ours scored on a RBI single by Isaiah Swantz to extend their lead to 4-2. The score remained there until IMS got 3 more runs in the fifth inning on a RBI double by Blake Bontrager and a 2 RBI double by Jacob Boller, making the score 7-2. IMS added one more run in the top of the sixth inning increasing the lead to 8-2. New London loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs before IMS pitcher Blake Bontrager got the Tigers lead-off hitter to pop-out to short to end the inning keeping the score 8-2. New London was able to get one run in the seventh inning before Bontrager struck out the last batter to end the game giving IMS the 8-3 upset win. Blake Bontrager pitched all 7 innings for IMS getting the win on the mound.
IMS moved on to play Burlington Notre Dame Saturday evening in a District final game at New London. IMS scored four runs in the top of the first inning, getting RBIs from Isaiah Swantz and Jacob Boller in the inning. Notre Dame came back with 2 runs of their own to make the score 4-2 after one inning of play. Both teams added one run in the third inning making the score 5-3. The score remained there until Cole Ours score on a SAC fly by Eli Ours in the sixth inning extending the IMS lead to 6-3. Notre Dame was able to score 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before a diving catch by IMS centerfielder Isaiah Swantz ended the game, preserving the 6-5 win for IMS. Drew Blauvelt got the win on the mound for IMS pitching 5 innings. Reggie Borntrager recorded the two inning save for IMS. Jacob Boller had 2 hits for IMS, and Reggie Borntrager, Eli Ours, and Kobe Borntrager also had hits. IMS is 16-9 on the season and will play in a Substate Final Tuesday evening in Washington at 7pm against Lisbon.
