The IMS boys golf team finished off a busy week of three 18 hole tournaments. On Tuesday, May 1, they competed in the Mid-Prairie Invitational at Kalona Golf Club finishing 10th place in the 10 team event in windy conditions which led to higher scoring overall. On Wednesday the boys headed to Fort Madison’s Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course for the SEISC tournament finishing 13th in the 14th team Superconference meet with a 438 team score. Two of the top ranked teams in class 1A & 2A battled it out for conference champ with Central Lee claiming the championship with Winfield-Mt Union seven shots behind. Trevor Leyden posted at 90 good enough for 3rd team all-conference honors. Finally, Saturday, May 5, the team headed to Donnellson for the Central Lee Invitational at Green Acres Country Club and shot a season low 403 and finishing in seventh place in the eight team meet. Trevor Leyden again led the team with an 85 and Bronze Slabach blew away his career low with an 87.
“All in all, it was a good week,” coach Steve Nelson had to say. “The weather was fantastic after the rough Spring we’ve had. It was great to see Trevor get some accolades after a solid season. Bronze’s round at Donnellson was awesome to see. Hopefully, the experience will boost us into a good week of practice as we prepare for post-season play.”
After a completed regular season the boys head to Winfield for sectionals on Friday, May 11 and the girls head to Marengo for regionals on Monday, May 14.
