Alisa Kandel joined the IMS faculty this year as the music instructor. Alisa was interviewed so everyone could get to know her a little better. Welcome Alisa!
1) What brought you to IMS?
“As a Central Christian alumna, I wanted to be part of a Mennonite high school institution again. When IMS called about the music position I gladly accepted.”
2) What is your previous education/teaching experience?
“I am a recent graduate from Hesston College (2013) and Goshen College (2015).”
3) What excites you about teaching and teaching your subject area?
“The most exciting part about teaching music for me is connecting with students in a nontraditional classroom setting. This gives me the freedom to move around, have everyone participate by singing and/or playing instruments and to learn how to be a musical community centered on Christ.”
4) What church do you currently attend?
“I have been visiting churches in the area, and have especially enjoyed First Mennonite Church in Iowa City.”
5) What do you do for hobbies or in your spare time?
“My hobbies would include biking, cooking, baking, making music with friends and family and most recently exploring the quaint town of Kalona.”
We welcome Alisa into our IMS family!
