IMS soccer downs Central Lee

IMS 3

Central Lee, Donnellson 0

Playing soccer on a football field leads to several problems. Using the width of the field is difficult, because the space doesn’t really exist, and secondly, if the goal posts are behind the goal, the temptation seems to be to put the ball through the uprights rather than into the net. Such was the case in the first half of play Thursday night at Central Lee of Donnellson. Sending balls to the corners ended with the ball running out of bounds disrupting passing and the flow of play. As for the scoring, IMS hit at least four field goals in the first half which unfortunately didn’t add to the score. Still, on a beautiful evening, IMS controlled the field of play and kept the offensive pressure on through the a 0-0 first half tie.

In the second half IMS made some adjustments and picked up the level of play. Seven minutes into the second half Peyton Thompson sent a ball wide to Reggie Hostetler. Hostetler beat the defender then deftly slid the ball across the middle to Enrique Sanchez, who took a look at the goal and buried the ball in the far corner for the 1-0 lead.

Just minutes later Nicholas Yoder gathered in the ball near the top of the penalty box, then passed to Dillon Bender who turned the ball into the net and by the goalie. Reggie Hostetler finished the scoring after being sprung with a wonderful through pass. Going one on one with the goalie, Hostetler made sure to stick it in the net.

The IMS defense remained stout as Justin Boller, Cody Miller, Jameson Lammer, Michael Hershberger and Kirby Shetler shut down the counter-attack strategy of Central Lee. Goalies Reggie Hostetler and Joel Shetler combined for the shutout.

IMS moves to 6-2 for the season and 5-1 in conference play.
