Steve Nelson is honorary “baker of the day”

Steve Nelson squeezes the filling onto the kolache.

Steve had the preparation of the kolaches under control as Sherry and Brenda worked on the rest of the meal!

Steve Nelson, pastor at Lower Deer Creek Church volunteered to help Sherry Schrock and Brenda Miller (filling in for new mother Nici Bontrager) make kolaches. There was a choice of apple, black raspberry, peach, and strawberry kolaches. The smell of them baking made everyone anxious for lunch time to arrive!

Baseball lights get adjustment

Thanks to Joe Swartzentruber and Doug Slaubaugh the baseball lights are now headed in the right direction! The wind moved the bank of lights several years ago but it was too costly to hire someone to fix it. Our friendly neighbors, Farmers Electric, did not have a boom truck that elevated high enough (80 feet) – so Joe rented one from Aero Rental and Doug assisted him in getting things back in shape!

Student Volunteer – life outside IMS

Sophomore Katie Bender volunteers at the Wellman Food Pantry one Saturday each month along with her advocate from Wellman Mennonite Church, Bethany Shetler.  They sort groceries by date, (they cannot distribute items past the expiration date), stock the shelves and help carry groceries to peoples’ vehicles.

Katie also uses her hobby of crocheting to help others.  Since the beginning of the year she has made 20 scarves.  It takes about four days to make one scarf.  She said she purchases the yarn at a store or Goodwill.  A friend takes the scarves to work in Iowa City and gives them to people there who do not have one.  Her scarves have also been given to the Salvation Army. Katie said, “It just feels good to help others.”

Thank you, photographers!

Gary Yoder, Fence Post Designs

Ed Miller

We want to thank Gary Yoder (’80) and Ed Miller (’58) for all the great pictures they take during our athletic events. The web wouldn’t be as interesting if the pictures of the players and coaches and crowd wouldn’t be included. Gary and Ed have divided their time and agreed that Ed take the pictures at the away games (he is also our bus driver) and Gary cover the home events. It’s definitely a win – win for IMS!

Many hands make light work

Our willing volunteers spent several hours in the conference room this morning assembling the year end mailing. The office staff certainly appreciates their help and encourages anyone who would like to volunteer at IMS to let us know! You can imagine how much quicker the work goes when ten people are “stuffing” rather than only three.

The crops are in!

Lee Miller, Kyle Miller, Roger Stutzman, Miles Swartzentruber, Justin Slaubaugh, Dave Slaubaugh, Dale Stutzman, Troy Slaubaugh, Doug Slaubaugh, Shawn Slaubaugh

Thanks to the planning, planting and harvesting of some very generous folks, the crops from our IMS farm are picked and sold. Words cannot adequately express how thankful we are to these guys who so effortlessly (from our perspective anyway) take care of our farm. The money generated from the sale of the beans and corn help balance our budget at the end of the fiscal year. Our heartfelt thanks goes to Kyle & Lee Miller, Dave, Doug, Troy, Justin, & Shawn Schlabaugh, Dale & Roger Stutzman, and Miles Swartzentruber for volunteering  time, equipment, and gas! We absolutely could not do it without them.
