Compassion Group sponsored the Talent Show at IMS on Saturday, March 24. A variety of entertainment was provided by many of the talented students at IMS. Mischa De Jesus sang in three duets: “Lucky,” along with Sam Swartzendruber, “Safe and Sound,” with Rachel Schrock, and “For Good,” with Amanda Bartel; Anne and Renee Buckwalter played the piano duet, “March Op. 121”; Benay Gozkaman from Turkey sang ‘Hallelujah’ from Shrek accompanied by Sam Swartzendruber on guitar and Susan See on piano. Benay also played her own piano composition. Benay and Michaela Gingerich sang a Turkish song as a duet.
Camila Segar sang “You Raise Me Up” and accompanied herself on the piano; Jamilya Masylbekova played her Komuz, a national instrument from Kyrgzstzan, sang her national anthem, and danced a graceful Kyrgyzstanian dance in her native dress; Cris Lopez from Ecuador played two piano duets, “Music of the Night” and “Enchanted Melody”, with her teacher, Susan See; Sam Swartzendruber and Nathan Peters did a very funny Reader’s Theater version of “Who’s On First”; A boy’s trio made up of Kyle Brinning, Nathan Peterson, and Sam Swartzendruber sang “I Sing the Mighty Power of God”; Trent Yoder and his son, Sam, sang a duet, “Mary, Did You Know?”
Hannah Altmaier and Ting Davidson joined with two of their fellow Preucil School of Music classmates, Anna Wolle, and Fiona Edburg, who are also in the Iowa State Orchestra along with Hannah and Ting, and played two songs, “Concerto in A Major” by Vivaldi and “On Wings of Song” arranged by Doris Preucil. We were thrilled with the beauty of their performance. The IMS Praise Band led by Lee Ebersole and including Anya Slabaugh, Mischa De Jesus, Amanda Bartel, Rachel Schrock, Hannah Altmaier, and Sam Swartzendruber played “How to Save a Life.” Hannah Altmaier played the piano as an offering was being collected.
Thank you to all the young people who participated and brought much joyful entertainment to their listeners. The Compassion Group thanks all who attended and very generously donated money towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, water purifying equipment for Haiti, supporting three children in Guatemala, the Philippines, and Ecuador through Children International, and other Compassion projects.
