2013 Events planned:

Prospective Family Night, Tuesday, April 2nd – Parents, 8th grade students and transfer students are invited to join us at 7:00 p.m. in Celebration Hall at IMS to gather more information about Iowa Mennonite School.  You will be able to meet faculty, administrators, staff and current IMS families.  You will also be able to learn more about classes, financial assistance and our extra curricular activities. Tours of the facility will also be available.

This event is for those who already know they are attending IMS this fall and for those still considering their decision.  If you have even remotely considered attending IMS next fall, you should attend this event.  Please don’t automatically let tuition costs prevent you from considering IMS.  Over half of our students receive financial assistance of some type.  We encourage you to attend this event and gather information before you make your decision.  Please contact Candi Schmieder if you have questions: cschmieder@iowamennonite.org or 319-656-2073.

6th – 8th grade students are invited to a skating party on Friday, April 5th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Wellman Skating Rink. Join the IMS FFA and Candi for a night of fun!  Can you beat our FFA members in the Limbo Contest?  Bring your friends, $1.00 for skates and money for drinks and snacks. Pizza, fun and prizes will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact Candi at cschmieder@iowamennonite.org or 319-656-2073.  And let’s hope we don’t have to worry about snow this time!

Half-time basketball scrimmages: Scrimmages will take place during half times of the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball games on the dates listed.  The girls’ varsity games start at 6:00 so please be sure to be there before half time.  Bring or wear your gym shoes and clothes.  We will divide you up into teams and provide coaches/refs.  If you play on a tournament team, your whole team can come to play.  You don’t have to want to come to IMS to come and scrimmage with us.  Please call or email Candi with any questions. 319-656-2073 or 319-560-0541 or cschmieder@iowamennonite.org.

Spring Visit Day – Monday, February 18th from 8:00 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.  Parent session from 8:00 a.m. – 10:10 a.m.  Visit day gives 8th grade and transfer students the opportunity to meet other students, sit in on classes and chapel and learn how to get involved in activities such as sports, fine arts and student government.  The morning session for parents will give them the chance to meet with school administration and school board members, get a tour of the school, get questions answered and attend chapel.  A new brochure with more information about school and a registration form for our Spring Visit Day can be found here: IMS Brochure (PDF)

 

 

Friday, February 22nd from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Come join us at the Wellman Skating Rink for some pizza, skating fun, games and prizes. Bring $1.00 for skate rental and money for drinks and any snacks you may want.  We will provide the pizza and fun!  Bring your friends along too! Letters to Prospective Students in 6th – 8th grade were sent out detailing upcoming events to showcase different aspects of school life at IMS.  Passes to athletic and drama events were included as well.  The first event is an ice cream social Tuesday, September 25th between the home JV & Varsity volleyball match.  Bring your enthusiasm for IMS volleyball and your appetites to enjoy the ice cream treats and get to know other prospective students and our director of enrollment, Candi Schmieder.  If you didn’t  receive a letter and pass, please contact Candi to make sure you are on our mailing list.

2012 Kick-off event: Ice Cream Social, Tuesday, Sept. 25th between the JV and Varsity volleyball matches. Come join us for ice cream, brownies and some information about IMS.  Open to all students in 6th – 8th grade!

Saturday, October 13th – Hayride for 6th – 8th grade students and game night for their parents. Activities will start at IMS at 5:30 and last until around 8:30.  Please RSVP to Candi by Oct. 10th so we make sure to have enough food for everyone. cschmieder@iowamemnonite.org 319-656-2073.

Conversations and coffee – Tuesday, Oct. 23rd, 7:00 p.m. at Panera Bread, Sycamore Mall, Iowa City. If you know any families with 6th – 8th grade students who are interested in learning more about IMS, invite them to join Candi and special guests, Adam & Brigette Ingersoll. Current parents will help host the evening.

Backstage tour for IMS drama: Sunday, Oct. 28th. After the drama performance meet Candi up front by the stage for a backstage tour of the set. We will end up in the cafeteria to meet the cast and have refreshments.

Fall Visit Day for 8th graders is Monday, November 26th.  This is an important day for you to visit.  It will give you a good idea of a typical school day at IMS, what classes we offer and an opportunity to meet current students and faculty.  All of this is important information in processing your decision about where to attend high school.

If that day will not work for you to come, please contact Candi about coming another day you don’t have school…or plan to attend our next Prospective Student Day on February 18th when most school districts do not have school.

The day will begin at 8:00 with refreshments in the Celebration Hall lobby.  Your parents are invited to a short informational meeting from 8:00—8:30 a.m. with Principal Tony Miller,  Director of Enrollment Candi Schmieder, and Director of Development Larry Swartzendruber.  Lunch will be provided and your day will be done at 3:10.

You are also welcome to bring a friend for Fall Visit Day.  Please RSVP by Monday, November 19th by calling or emailing Candi at the school so we can make plans for all students who want to come visit.

Sunday, December 9th following the Christmas Concert will be our annual Christmas party for 6th – 8th graders and their families.  Meet us in the IMS cafeteria following the performance.  We will have refreshments and games for everyone.  Please RSVP to Candi at 319-656-2073, 319-560-0541 or cschmieder@iowamennonite.org.
