School

IMS is a school with a mission! That mission is to prepare all students for a life of service to others. IMS enrolls grades 9-12 with a teacher-student ratio of approximately 1:13, allowing students at Iowa Mennonite School to experience that “personal” feeling. One-on-one relationships with teachers are not at all uncommon; nor is it unusual to see seniors and freshmen mingling with oneDSC_0886 another. It is perhaps in that setting that the student learns most, for it is then that personal growth occurs.

At Iowa Mennonite School a student can grow academically, socially, mentally, and above all, spiritually. To learn more watch the video: IMS Facilities & Faith at IMS.

Academics

At Iowa Mennonite School, academics are at the top of the list of priorities.  Quality programming abounds in every area of life at IMS. The small class sizes allow for a very interactive learning environment where teachers use a hands-on approach.  Some examples of hands-on learning that students have had the opportunity to take part in are:   A student run sophomores 001restaurant, landscaping the school grounds, physics olympics, building out-buildings, and many more.

This learning has translated into class averages over the past nine years that  have ranked at the 98th percentile nationally on the Iowa Tests of Educational Development (ITED) with the most frequent rankings at the 99th percentile. Approximately 90 percent of IMS graduates receive post-high school education or training. To learn more about the classes that IMS has to offer go to the academics page and watch our video Academics at IMS.

ChapelMusic/Drama

IMS has numerous ways for students to get involved in Music and Drama departments both extracurricular and for credit.   Chorale (FR/SO), Concert Choir (JR/SR) and Orchestra along with some advanced music classes give the students a good variety of music classes.  With Jazz Band, Pep Band, Praise Band, Chamber Singers, Musical, Drama, Childrens Drama as extracurriculars, there is no shortage of ways for students to get involved.

Music and Drama have always been a very important piece in the IMS experience. Students encourage their peers to be a part of these activities instead of discouraging them, like in some other schools.  Over 80% of our student body participates in music or drama.  With the completion of a new auditorium in 2007, the Music and Drama departments are now able to perform in a state-of-the-art facility.  To learn more about music and drama go to the music/drama page and watch the video Extra Curriculars at IMS.
