When I became president of our FFA chapter this year I knew that I wanted to make the trip to Indianapolis for the national convention. When I talked to my FFA Advisor, Mike Severino-Patterson, he had as much interest as I did. Neither of us had gone before. When I checked with our chapter to see who else wanted to go, Drew Blauvelt, Max Martens, and Trevor Leyden were interested. So on Wednesday, October 24th, we headed out to Indiana on a charter bus full with six different FFA chapters. There were three highlights of the trip: the Garth Brooks concert, Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company tour and Lucas Oil stadium tour. On Wednesday we arrived in Indianapolis in the afternoon and sat in on a session where awards were presented. Then, the concert started around 7:00. Personally, I didn’t know many Garth Brooks songs before the concert but his music really grew on me. The next morning, we drove about an hour to Kokomo to take a tour of the glass company there. It was really interesting to see the process from the start, with only sand; to the end, with sheets of glass of every color imaginable. On Friday morning we toured Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. It was cool to see where a professional football team plays and how nice their facilities are. Overall, the trip was very educational and fun while the guys from our chapter became closer.
