IMS 0, Des Moines Christian 4

In their first game at the State tournament, IMS ran into a strong Des Moines Christian team including two of the top four scorers in the state, losing 4-0. Des Moines Christian is overall the fastest team we’ve played all year with not only speedy forwards but fast defenders. The latter made it difficult to create a sustained attack, while the former put a lot of pressure on the IMS defense. DMC scored five minutes into the game, before IMS got rid of their nerves and settled in, creating some offensive opportunities but not finding goal. In the last minutes of the half, DMC again put the ball in the net for the 2-0 half-time lead.

At halftime IMS switched formations to try to establish more control of the midfield. This seemed to work as IMS did better at creating opportunities but struggled to finish. Midway through the half DMC hit a long shot which curled into the upper corner of the net for a 3-0 score. Minutes later DMC was awarded a penalty kick which they converted for the 4-0 score.

IMS ends its season 18-2 highlighted by its first trip to the Spring State Tournament. Other highlights include winning the Conference regular season title, consecutive upset wins over #1 ranked Regina, at the time  #3 ranked Williamsburg, and the substate victory over Solon. IMS says goodbye to six seniors, Reggie Borntrager, Levi Geyer, Gerardo Mendoza, Cole Ours, Mitchell Schmieder, and Isaiah Swantz.
