Baseball June 11-15

Blake Bontrager

IMS traveled to Highland for a varsity doubleheader Monday. IMS won game one 10-0 in 5 innings, scoring one run in the first inning and one run in the second inning before exploding for 7 runs in the third inning. Blake Bontrager got the win on the mound pitching all 5 innings and allowing just one hit. Bontrager also added a double and 2 RBI at the plate for IMS. Eli Ours, London Schrock, and Jacob Boller also had RBI singles in the game.

IMS continued their hot hitting to start game two at Highland scoring 2 runs in the first inning getting RBIs from London Schrock and Reggie Borntrager to give IMS an early lead. Highland came back to tie the game at two scoring one run in each of the first 2 innings. IMS took the lead again in the third inning scoring 2 more runs to take a 4-2 lead. Highland scored 1 run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 4-3 in favor of IMS before getting 4 runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead and ultimately going on to win the game 8-4, splitting the doubleheader with IMS.

Drew Blauvelt

IMS traveled to Burlington Tuesday evening to take on the Notre Dame Nikes. IMS got on the scoreboard first with 3 runs in the third inning and 2 more runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Notre Dame was able to get one run in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh inning to make the final score 5-2. Drew Blauvelt got the win on the mound for IMS pitching all 7 innings allowing just four hits. Cole Ours, Eli Ours, London Schrock, Trevor Leyden, Isaiah Swantz, and Drew Blauvelt all had hits for IMS.

IMS played its lone home game of the week Wednesday afternoon against Cardinal. IMS got on the scoreboard first in the third inning when Drew Blauvelt drew a bases loaded walk scoring London Schrock from third base. The score remained 1-0 until Cardinal broke through for 3 runs in the fifth inning taking a 3-1 lead. IMS got one run in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Trevor Leyden. Cardinal added two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-2 lead. IMS rallied in the bottom of the seventh getting a 2 out RBI double from Reggie Borntrager to make the score 5-3. Trevor Leyden followed with a 2 RBI single to tie the game at 5, and send the game into extra innings. The score stayed tied 5-5 until the Cardinal bats came alive in the top of the 10th inning as Cardinal scored 8 runs in the inning putting the game out of reach and taking the win 13-5. Eli Ours, Trevor Leyden, and Blake Bontrager all had two hits in the game for IMS.

Trevor Leyden

IMS went to Central Lee Friday night to face the Hawks. The Central Lee bats came out on fire as the Hawks scored 11 runs in the first inning on 10 hits to take a 11-0 lead. The IMS bats could not get going as IMS mustered only 3 hits before falling 11-0 in 5 innings. Eighth grader Noah Miller pitched well in relief for IMS throwing 3.1 innings allowing no runs and just one hit. Cole Ours, Jacob Boller, and Noah Miller had hits for IMS. Iowa Mennonite ends their busy week with a overall record of 6-6 on the season, and will have another busy week next week as they play 8 games in 6 days, with the last two games coming on Saturday in the IMS Classic.
