Soccer wins on senior night

IMS 4   Mount Vernon 1

IMS finished its regular season with a convincing 4-1 win over Mount Vernon as Louis Etienne recorded the hat trick while Gedeon Sangare added a goal for the four IMS goals. Etienne’s first goal came thirteen minutes into the game on an assist from Tyler Swantz. The IMS defense anchored by Reggie and Kobe Borntrager, Mitchell Schmieder and Eli Ours stood strong limiting Mount Vernon’s chances and preserving the 1-0 half-time score.

In the second half Isaiah Swantz took a shot on a direct kick only to see the ball deflect to Etienne’s feet. Etienne made the most of the opportunity, burying the shot into the far post for the 2-0 score. Subbing in, Gedeon Sangare scored on his first touch of the game as Cole Ours sent a ball across the face of the goal to make the score 3-0. Gedeon returned the favor a few minutes later as he sent a ball across to Etienne who turned the ball by the goalie for the 4-0 score. With time winding down and numerous young players in the game, Mount Vernon was able to find the net in the last two minutes of the game and the final 4-1 score.

IMS finishes it regular season 15-1 overall and an 8-0 conference record. IMS will return to action in substate play, hosting Mediapolis in a first round game Monday at IMS. Start time is be 6:30. Much of the credit for the successful season goes to the seven seniors who contributed to the program. Recognized after the game were seniors Isaac Miller – film, Reggie Borntrager and Mitchell Schmieder, central defenders, Cole Ours, midfielder, Levi Geyer, forward, Isaiah Swantz, midfielder and Gerardo Mendoza midfield.
