Soccer defeats Washington

Cody Jones

IMS 4, Washington 1

The IMS soccer team traveled to Washington Monday afternoon marking the first time IMS has played on the Washington field. IMS created some early pressure which paid off when Louis Etienne stole the ball from a Washington defender and went one on one with the goalie for the 1-0 lead. IMS created several good chances but couldn’t find the net as Washington made it difficult to navigate in the areas in front of the goal. With six minutes in the half, a miscommunication between the IMS goalie and a defender led to the dreaded “own goal” tying the score at 1-1 at halftime.

IMS upped the pressure in the second half resulting in a goal as Etienne sent a crossing pass into the box where Jacob Boller turned the ball into the net for the 2-1 lead. Cole Ours finished the scoring notching his first goal on a head ball from a direct kick off the foot of Isaiah Swantz. Ours second goal came off another head ball, this time off the foot of Cody Jones for the 4-1 final. The defense led by Kobe and Reggie Borntrager, Eli Ours and Mitchell Schmieder with Blake Bontrager in goal, successfully kept the Demons from getting many strong shots during the evening.

IMS moves to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in conference. IMS hosts Mount Vernon in its final regular season game, Thursday (May 17). Seniors and their parents will be recognized after the varsity game.
