SEISC Art Show and Awards

Katelyn Swantz

Each year the schools from our conference get together for a day of workshops held on the Southeastern Community College Campus in West Burlington.  This year 16 of our students attended a full day of workshops. Each student choose two workshops to attend. This year the workshops ranged from animation, printmaking, chalk pastel, watercolor, ceramics, colored pencil, to making flip books.  Each year there is also a juried art show held in the library and art gallery 15 artworks that best represent their art department from each school.

Karen Cardenas, a Junior who is looking to become a high school teacher someday said that each year she gets to try  some new media and ends up discovering that she really enjoys it. This year her favorite workshop was colored pencil.

Our students get to rub shoulders with other students who are passionate about art as well as being in an immersive creative environment where visual art is front and center.
