The boys and girls golf teams completed their seasons in the past week. On the boys side, Junior Trevor Leyden qualified for districts individually after finishing second for the non-qualifying teams at the 1A sectional at Winfield last Friday, May 11. The team finished fifth of seven teams with a season-low 402 team score.
Trevor competed Thursday, May 17 at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City shooting a 96 (51-45) finishing in 40th place individually in the 80 player district. A round of 80 was the cut-off to qualify for state.
The IMS girls ended their season on Monday, May 14 finishing seventh of eight teams at the class 1A regional in Marengo shooting a team score of 529.
Looking ahead into next year, the boys and girls golf teams will return all their student athletes off their young teams except their lone senior, Hannah Peters, who’s leadership will be greatly missed.
“I enjoyed this golf season as much as any I’ve been apart of,” coach Steve Nelson had to say. “It was a challenging Spring with the weather, but once the weather turned, I really saw the greatest improvement in our play from day one to the last meet that I’ve ever experienced, especially in the boys. We had three all-conference golfers in Trevor Leyden, Gretta Rempel, and Lara Kliewer which was great to see. We have a great core returning next year in what looks to be one of the best teams IMS will have in recent years for both the boys and girls.”
