The Iowa Mennonite girls’ track and field team opened their outdoor season in Solon Thursday April 5. The meet was originally scheduled as a coed meet in Williamsburg on Tuesday. Unpleasant weather made Tuesday not a good day for a track meet. The persistent coaches from Williamsburg and Solon planned this meet on the spur of the moment to replace the original meet. For Iowa Mennonite, junior Suzanna Yoder placed in the top three in all four of her events. She placed second in the 200 meter dash with a season best time of 27.90. She was third in the long jump with a season best jump of 15 feet 2 inches. She was also third in the 100 meter dash in 13.43. Her time of 1:04.7 in the 400 meter dash earned her third place and was another season best. The next highest places for the team were Emma Beachy in the discus with an eighty-eight foot throw for eighth place and Sarena Gerber in the 400 also placing eighth in 1:12.92. Gerber also ran a season best in the 1500 meter run. Ainsley Shaw ran a personal best in the 3000 meter run and Ava Hughes took 7 seconds off her best time in the 400 meter dash. Sarann Durflinger and Elizabeth Slater both made their debuts in discus.
