IMS celebrated Senior Night with a 64-38 win over Mediapolis to wrap up conference action Tuesday in Hillcrest Union. The five seniors were honored ahead of the varsity game and were in the line-up, and included Reggie Borntrager, Cole Ours, Cameron Roser-Peet, Mitchell Schmieder and Isaiah Swantz.
Roser-Peet got IMS on the board with a trey and Swantz followed with a lay-up to give IMS a 5-0 lead three minutes into the game. It was 10-2 after five minutes and then 16-4 with one minute to play in the frame before the Bulldogs scored twice to make it 16-8 after one quarter. The teams were pretty even through the second quarter and IMS led 31-20 at the half. IMS led 44-29 after three periods and then, following an 11-2 run to start the period, led 55-31 with five minutes remaining.
Mitchell Schmieder paced IMS with 24 points on 10-12 from the floor and Trevor Leyden followed with 10 points, including three treys. Swantz scored eight points, Eli Ours scored seven, and Roser-Peet had five points. Borntrager and Jeremy Niemeyer finished with four points apiece, and Cole Ours scored two points to complete the scoring. Niemeyer had seven rebounds and Cole Ours, Borntrager and Eli Ours had four assists apiece. Eli Ours had four steals.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said “it was great to have all our guys back together to celebrate Senior Night. Each of our seniors have played key roles for this team and we are so appreciative of each one.”
IMS goes to 14-2 in conference play, 18-2 overall.
IMS is slated to play New London on Friday in the Southeast Iowa SuperConference Shootout on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan University, with game time at 6 p.m. IMS and New London each finished second in division play. The second game of the evening pits North Division champ Wapello against South champ Notre Dame.
