Our chapel times together this week were designed to help the IMS community grieve and cope with the loss of IMS 10th grader, Teresa Cardenas.
Monday and Tuesday’s chapel times were spent in being together with each other in our grief. Pastors and counselors were available for the students and faculty.
On Thursday, Joel Beachy, pastor of East Union Mennonite Church, and Karla Stoltzfus Detweiler, pastor of First Mennonite Church, led us in redeeming the space of Celebration Hall as a space of nurture, joy, creativity, encouragement and song. There was time in the service for singing, candle lighting and an anointing of the space and of those seeking healing and prayer.
Friday’s chapel offered students an opportunity to write or draw their own lament psalm based on the pattern of laments we find in the book of Psalms. May we all take our grief and sorrows to the One who loves us like no other.
