Chapel Report Dec. 11-15

This week’s chapel theme was “Worship is Patience and Preparation.” We are in the Advent season, which is an anticipation of Jesus’ coming into the world to bring light to our darkness.

As a visual way of inviting the presence of Jesus into our space of worship, we are lighting a candle at the beginning of chapel. We have felt darkness even more in the recent death of our student, Teresa Cardenas. The candle represents Jesus bringing light to us in our grieving, bringing hope and healing that we are needing.

For Monday’s chapel, we were led by Emma Beachy, senior. Emma gave space for us to think about what we are anticipating in the future, how we are feeling or what we are thinking about that, and then to take those thoughts and feelings to God. Adria Ebersole closed with some scriptures that talk about patience and waiting.

We met in our small groups on Tuesday. Students had the opportunity in that setting to continue to process our loss of Teresa.

Wednesday’s chapel was a hymn sing held in the foyer of Celebration Hall. Emma Beachy led us in the Advent hymns O Come, O Come Immanuel, Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, Hark! The Glad Sound and Comfort, Comfort, O My People.

On Thursday, we were treated with a preview of the upcoming concert on Sunday. The choirs and symphonic band, led by Alisa Kandel, sung and played a few songs which will be heard at the concert.

Friday’s chapel featured more music as the IMS Praise Band led in Christmas songs. We are blessed with the gift of music!
