IMS dropped its home opener to the Mediapolis Lady Bullettes, 48-86.
IMS kept the game close through the opening six minutes of play, but an 11-point Mediapolis run to close out the first quarter widened the gap. IMS went into the locker room down 22-47 at the half, and wouldn’t cut into the lead any further.
The home team fought hard to capitalize on quick transition opportunities and well executed sets in the half court during the second half, but couldn’t slow down the high caliber offense of the Lady Bullets.
“We saw some very positive things from the girls tonight, and obviously found some areas where we need to improve,” IMS head coach Kari Heusinkveld said. “Mediapolis is always a tough team to go up against and will finish at the top of the conference this year. I’m very proud of the effort we saw from our squad this evening. We’ll do some good things this year.”
IMS was paced by junior point guard Suzanna Yoder, who finished with 26 points, four assists and five rebounds. Senior forward Alyssa Hershberger went 7-of-8 from the line to finish with 13 points and eight rebounds. Classmate Avery Blauvelt chipped in six points to go with four rebounds, and freshman Yani Gutierrez rounded out the scoring with three points. Senior guard Payton Hart pulled down a team high nine rebounds.
IMS returns to action at home Tuesday, November 28th against Lone Tree. Tipoff is set for 6 pm.
