Red Ribbon week is off to a great start! The Red Ribbon campaign is a national week set aside to focus on being drug and substance free and to raise our awareness about harmful substances. The IMS PTO has sponsored several special speakers this week.
Today we had Darren Brown share with us. Darren lives in Crawfordsville with his wife and three children. He works at Afforable Metal Manufacturing in Muscatine. He shared his life’s journey with substance abuse and how the God has helped him through it.
Wednesday, Curtis Fry will be our speaker. There will be a special 45 minute chapel that day from 9:43-10:27. Curtis Fry choose to celebrate his 21st birthday as many local young adults do, downtown Iowa City bar hopping. That evening ended with himself in jail charged with manslaughter. He will share his testimony how God has used his story for God’s glory. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. – Choosing Him Over I Changes Every Situation is the motto he lives by daily.
Thursday, Eric Weber, a sergeant with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, will be speaking with us. We aren’t sure yet of that chapel schedule. It depends on whether or not parent-teacher conferences are held on Thursday. We will update this article when we know. Eric works out of the Iowa City office as an Investigator with the Multiple Agency Drug Enforcement. Eric works with children as young as 14 and 15 all the way into adulthood who have had lifelong substance abuse issues. He will discuss how powerful drugs and addiction can be emotionally and physically. Thursday’s chapel will be from 9:25-9:56 am.
The public is invited to join us for chapel. Please see the different times posted for each day posted above as it is not the regular chapel schedule. Please enter in the main entrance of the school on the southwest side of the building and sign in as a visitor.
