Senior Levi Geyer earned all-state honors at the state cross country championships near Fort Dodge Saturday. Geyer ran the 5k course in 16:45.7 seconds and placed fifteenth in the 1A race. The top fifteen finishers earn all-state honors. Levi qualified for the state meet by placing eighth in the Solon state qualifier meet in 17:17. That was his personal best up to that point. Saturday Levi was the fourth finisher from the Solon qualifier meet.
“Levi ran a tremendous race to end his high school cross country career. He ran his first two miles of the race in 5:20 and 5:22 then his final 1.105 miles at an average pace of 5:29. This was the hardest he had pushed himself all season. Levi is now the second fastest athlete I have coached at the state level during sixteen years of coaching. Levi has been a joy to coach especially since he has put total faith in the type of training that we do. Next year’s team will greatly miss Levi.”
