The cross country teams encountered cooler conditions and experienced a substantial number of personal best or season best times at the Mediapolis Invitational Thursday at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club near Morning Sun. IMS placed sixth in the nine team field beating Lone Tree for the first time this season. Senior Levi Geyer placed second behind Peter Woodward of Liberty in a season best time of 17:32. Peter ran 16:47. Jacob Boller also recorded a season best time. His time of 19:51 placed him twentieth. Aaron Hershberger took a full minute off his previous personal record. Aaron placed thirty-fourth in 20:52. Jesse Slater’s new personal record is over a minute faster than his one week old previous best time. Jesse placed thirty-seventh in 21:01. Gedeon Sangare slashed fifty seconds from his old PR. Gedeon’s new best time is 21:33. He was forty-fifth. Miller was a minute faster than his previous season best time. Micah placed fiftieth in 21:42. Freshman John Hughes also had a great race lowering his previous best time by over sixty seconds. ran 21:44 for fifty-second place. Johnny Diaz had the biggest negative split on the boys team in his final mile taking his new best time to 24:39. Gibson Lowenberg had an off night but honorably finished the course.

The girls team also had a deciding majority of its members record new personal or season best times on the soft grass at Heritage Oaks. Sarena Gerber medaled with her new personal best time of 23:23 for thirteenth place. Mackenzie Gutierrez was the next finisher for the team placing thirty-first in 26:12. Rachel Geyer was not far behind finishing in 26:28. The new season best time earned Geyer thirty-third place. Greta Schrag took thirty seconds off her PR set last year. Greta ran 26:50 for thirty-seventh place. Kennedy Roth came in next placing forty-first in 28:08. Meredith Blossom took nearly two minutes off her personal record finishing in 28:23 for forty-second place. Ainsley Shaw hacked 1:24 off her old PR. The new best time is 29:46.

The girls and boys cross country teams will compete in the 1A state qualifier meet hosted by Solon at the Solon Nature and Recreation Area Thursday, October 19. The top three teams and fifteen individuals in each race qualify to advance to the state meet held in Fort Dodge Saturday, October 28. Come to Solon and show your support for your favorite runners. The girls race starts at 3:00 pm and the boys race at 3:30 pm.
