The Iowa Mennonite boys cross country team placed seventh in the nine team field at the thirty-first annual English Valleys Cross Country Invitational Tuesday at Knoll Ridge golf course in North English. It was warm and the hills were as challenging as ever. Levi Geyer was the team’s lead runner starting in the middle of the pack and finishing in eighth place in 19:19. Jacob Boller continues to be a strong second runner for the team placing thirty-first in 21:40. Freshman Aaron Hershberger had a good race finishing in 23:42 for forty-ninth place. Micah Miller and Gedeon Sangare finished out the scoring placing sixtieth and sixty-second. This was Gedeon’s first time scoring for the team. Jesse Slater and Gibson Lowenberg also ran in the varsity race. Buddy Darting of Wilton was the individual winner finishing in 17:56. Tipton, ranked second in 2A, took the team title with 30 points.

The Iowa Mennonite girls team placed eighth in the eight team field at the English Valleys Invitational. Sarena Gerber ran a smart race passing a number of her competitors during the race. She claimed the last medal placing twentieth in 26:44. Mackenzie Gutierrez was the next finisher for the team placing thirty-seventh in 28:14. Greta Schrag also ran a smart race to place forty-ninth in 30:03. Rachel Geyer was two places back. Kennedy Roth was the team’s fifth scorer finishing in 32:55 with fifty-seventh place. Meredith Blossom was two places back while Ainsley Shaw was the team’s final runner in sixtieth place. Cheyenne Shaw of North Mahaska dominated the race finishing in 22:16. Tipton won the girls team title with 29 points.
The cross country teams compete next at the Center Point – Urbana Stormin’ Pointer Invitational Tuesday September 19.
