Cross country teams run in City High meet

Bud Williams fired the starting gun for the meet bearing his name.  Williams is a former coach of meet host City High. Geyer ran perfect splits on the 5.13 kilometer course finishing in 18:17 and twenty-seventh in the deep field. Jacob Boller was the next finisher for the team placing sixty-second in 20:40. This was his best effort of the season. Freshman Aaron Hershberger finished with a strong final mile to pull away from teammate Gedeon Sangare. Hershberger ran 22:59 while Gedeon Sangare ran 23:15.  Both were season best efforts. Jesse Slater and Micah Miller also had their best time of the season finishing in 23:32 and 23:59 respectively. Johnny Diaz saw his first varsity experience running in the race. Pleasant Valley dominated the meet taking the first six places scoring a perfect 15 points. Iowa Mennonite was eighth in the eight team field with 217 points. Anthony Pena of Pleasant Valley won the race in 16:09.

Rachel Geyer, Greta Schrag, Kennedy Roth

The young women from Iowa Mennonite all had season best performances on the Division I level venue in Iowa City Thursday night. Sarena Gerber and Mackenzie Gutierrez were the first two finishers for the team with times of 25:45 and 25:58 respectively for thirty-seventh and fortieth places. Rachel Geyer, Greta Schrag and Kennedy Roth stayed in a tight pack through two miles. Geyer and Schrag negative split their final mile to finish in 29 flat and 29:13 respectively while pulling Roth to a an all-time best time of 29:33. Meredith Blossom also ran a personal best time of 31:34. Ainsley Shaw had her best race of the season finishing in 33:39. Kylie Latham of Ottumwa was the titlist finishing the 5.13k in 20:02. City High won the team title with 29 points while Iowa Mennonite had 168 points for sixth place in the six team field.                         

Monday, October 2, the cross country teams host the Iowa Mennonite Invitational at the Wellman golf course.  The meet features fourteen boys and girls area high school teams. The meet starts at 4:00 pm with two junior high races followed by four high school races beginning with the girls junior varsity race at 4:30. Come support the runners.
