IMS Softball Loses vs L-M & at Pekin

IMS1, L-M 14

Avery Blauvelt catching

JUNE 15, KALONA.  IMS hosted Louisa Muscatine, ranked 13th in Class 2A, last Thursday night.  IMS held the Falcons in check through three innings, limiting their power-hitting lineup to four runs.  L&M broke things open in the fourth and fifth innings, plating ten runs.  IMS could not manufacture enough runs and the game ended in five innings.  IMS scored its sole run in the fourth inning when Rubye Ney singled, stole second and third, and scored on an overthrow.  Hannah Harris and Alyssa Gonzales each had doubles.  L&M’s pitcher mixed a deceptive rise ball with an effective fast ball to limit IMS to only three hits.  Defensive highlights included an exceptional game behind the plate by Avery Blauvelt who threw out one runner stealing and made a nice tag at the plate on an assist from Ney in centerfield.  Ney also threw out a runner at second and caught a deep fly ball near the fence.  Left fielder Joya Schrock made an impressive running catch on a sinking line drive in the fourth.  Suzanna Yoder had a strong defensive game at third base with four assists.  L&M did not have a JV team, so there was no second game.  IMS plays Lone Tree on the road on Friday.

IMS 2, Pekin 8

JUNE 13, PACKWOOD.  IMS traveled to Pekin to take on the Panthers on a dusty, windy evening.  IMS had a hard time stringing hits together, scoring a manufactured run in the first inning when Rubye Ney reached on an error, stole second and third, and scored on a passed ball.  IMS scored again in the second inning when Mia Graber tripled off the right field fence and later scored on a passed ball.  That completed the scoring for IMS.  Pekin scored five runs in the second inning and three in the fourth.  IMS highlights of the evening included a perfectly executed run down by Calli Shaw and Rachel Miller in the fifth inning and a diving stop by Miller at second base that kept runners from advancing.  Graber continued her hot hitting, going 2-3 with a triple and a single.  Shaw had the only other hit for IMS.  Pekin won the JV game.  Meredith Blossom and Joya Schrock pitched.
