IMS Softball falls to Mediapolis

Thursday evening displayed some beautiful softball weather for IMS’s game against Mediapolis at home. The Bullettes took advantage of the first pitch and rallied for four runs in the top of the first inning.  In the bottom of the first, Rubye Ney was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Avery Blauvelt’s single. Mediapolis scored one run in the top of the second to make it 5-1.  IMS rallied back with six runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Suzanna Yoder led off with a double followed by Ney’s bunt single.  Calli Shaw reached on an error to load the bases.  Blauvelt’s single scored Yoder.  Hannah Harris’s solid hit to left field scored Ney.  Rachel Miller was hit by a pitch and runners advanced on a passed ball, scoring Shaw. Alyssa Gonzales singled to score Blauvelt.  Joya Schrock reached on a fielder’s choice.   Miller scored on a passed ball, followed by Yoder who singled to score Gonzales.  Ney was hit by a pitch for the second time to reach base and the rally ended on Shaw’s fly out to right field.  Mediapolis scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 7-7, then went on to score four more in the sixth to take the final lead.  Rachel Miller stepped in for Harris at the top of the seventh to finish the game on the mound.  Coach Kathryn Ney commented, “I liked certain aspects of our game tonight.  We batted twelve batters in the bottom of the third inning and worked hard to get the runners across the plate.  Our defense is much stronger than last year and we definitely look more confident and sharp in the field.”  Yoder and Blauvelt each went 2-4 with 1 and 2 RBI respectively.  Mediapolis does not have a JV team, so there was no second game.

IMS’s next game is Monday, June 5th at home against Columbus Junction.
