IMS 16 Danville 7
IMS played Danville in the first game of the IMS Classic on Saturday, June 24th. IMS got on the board first in the top of the 2nd inning on a 2 RBI double by Caleb Yoder. Danville came back to take the lead 3-2 scoring 3 runs in the bottom half of the 2nd inning. IMS took the lead back in the 3rd inning scoring 4 runs getting a RBI single by Reggie Borntrager and a 2 RBI double by Cole Yoder. IMS added 3 more runs in the top of the 4th inning getting a RBI single from Noah Bruns, and a 2 RBI single from Isaiah Swantz making the score 9-3. Danville got 1 run in the bottom of the 4th inning before IMS added 5 more runs in the top of the 5th inning, led by a 2 RBI triple by Drake Brezina, followed by a RBI double by Nick Yutzy. Danville got another run in the bottom of the inning making the score 14-5 after 5 innings of play. Both teams scored 2 more runs in the 6 inning making the final score in favor of IMS 16-7. Isaiah Swantz got the win on the mound pitching 4 innings. Eli Ours pitched the final 3 innings for IMS, striking out 5 Danville batters. IMS was led offensively by Drake Brezina, who went 4-4 with a double, triple, and 3 RBIs. Nick Yutzy, Cole Yoder, and Caleb Yoder all had doubles for IMS. Isaiah Swantz had 3 RBIs for IMS and Noah Bruns added 2 RBIs. IMS finished the game with 16 hits, getting at least 1 hit from all nine starters.
IMS 5 Keokuk 4
IMS played Keokuk in the championship game of the IMS classic. Keokuk jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before IMS got a RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd inning from Caleb Yoder to make the score 2-1 after 2 innings of play. The score remained there until Caleb Yoder added another RBI single in the bottom of the 4th inning to tie the game 2-2. Keokuk scored 1 run in the 5th inning and 1 run in the 7th inning to take a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Isaiah Swantz led off the bottom of the inning with a single and then stole 2nd base. Trevor Leyden added a single to give IMS runners on the corners with 1 out. A RBI ground-out by Cole Ours made the score 3-4 with 2 outs. Drake Brezina hit a game tying RBI single, scoring Trevor Leyden, and sending the game into extra innings. Keokuk had a runner on 3rd with no outs in the top of the 9th inning before IMS pitcher Trevor Leyden got an infield pop-out to record the first out of the inning. IMS was able to throw the runner at third out at home on a ground ball to shortstop Drake Brezina keeping the score tied heading into the bottom of the 9th inning. Isaiah Swantz reached base on an infield hit to start the bottom of the 9th inning for IMS. A base hit by Trevor Leyden and an intentional walk to Cole Ours loaded the bases for IMS, sending Drake Brezina to the plate. Brezina hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop who was not able to throw the ball home in time to get Isaiah Swantz, giving IMS the 5-4 win in 9 innings. Blake Bontrager started on the mound for IMS, pitching 8 innings allowing 4 runs and only 1 earned run. Trevor Leyden got the win on the mound for IMS allowing no hits in 1 inning of work. IMS moves to 9-7 on the season and will play at home on Monday against Central Lee.
