IMS 0, Danville 2
IMS traveled to #8 ranked Danville and though the team played courageously came away with a 2-0 loss. Playing on a narrow, short and bumpy field, play tended to be congested, and at times became a “kick the ball and run” kind of game. The IMS back line of Juan Andino, Reggie Borntrager, Mitchell Schmieder, and Cole Yoder along with Jacob Boller and Isaiah Swantz, and goalie Blake Bontrager kept Danville scoreless through the first half and well into the second half. With 16 minutes on the clock a Danville forward was able to win the ball down the side and sent a shot towards goal. Though from a difficult angle the ball hit the far side netting for the 1-0 lead.
As IMS attempted to find the equalizing goal we pushed a defender forward. While this resulted in several offensive chances, Danville was able to capitalize and pick up a second goal with nine minutes left on the clock. Bontrager had a strong game in goal recording 15 saves and snagging several balls before they could be turned into shots.
IMS drops to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference race. IMS returns to action Friday, May 5 hosting Columbus in a conference match-up. Varsity will begin at 5:00 with JV to follow.
