The Iowa Mennonite girls track and field team tied for fifth place in the eight team field of the class B division Thursday in Wayland. Emma Beachy won the discus with a best throw of ninety-five feet one inch. Rubye Ney placed second in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:12.58. This was her best time yet this year. The team had four third place finishes. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Sarena Gerber, Mackenzie Gutierrez, Avery Blauvelt and Greta Schrag ran a season best time of 12:39.39 for third. Suzanna Yoder had third in the 100 meter dash in 14.30, the 200 meter dash in a personal record time of 28.51 and in the long jump with a season best jump of 14-06.25. The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Gerber, Shaw, Ney and Yoder placed fourth in a season best time of 4:43.16. Rachel Geyer was fifth in the 3000 meter run. The sprint medley relay team of Adria Ebersole, Rachel Miller, Mackenzie Gutierrez and Calli Shaw ran a season best time of 2:05.77. Ainsley Shaw had personal bests in the 3000 and 800 meter runs. Calli Shaw ran a personal record time in the 200 meter of 29.43 to place sixth. “It is great to have everyone competing at their best level at this point of the season,” Coach Gingerich commented.
Four athletes competed for the boys team. Adrian Gonzales had great improvement in the long jump improving 23.5 inches over his previous best in the long jump. His jump of 17-09.25 placed him second in the class B field. He also ran a personal best time of 26.37 in the 200 meter dash. Logan Thomas ran personal bests in the 400 and 800 meter runs. Jim Wang competed at his first track meet of the year running the 100 meter dash. Adrian Venegas threw both the discus and shot put for his first track and field outing. The track and field teams compete again May 4 at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference north division meet in Winfield.
