IMS 7, Wapello 1
Cole Ours set the pace for the IMS soccer team against Wapello on Monday evening, leading the way with two goals and four assists on the way to a 7-1 victory. In the opening minutes Ours made his way down the field eluding defenders, then putting a shot to the far post for the 1-0 lead. Wapello pushed right back and on a series of defensive miscues, the Wapello forward capitalized when the ball squirted into his path to tie the score. With the wind at their back, IMS pushed forward creating numerous chances only to see the Wapello goalie make a great save, or to see the ball carom off the post.
IMS regained the lead when Ours took the ball to the touch line, then put a cross in front of the goal where Seth Danga was waiting to turn the ball into the net. Minutes later Ours was the recipient of an assist from Isaiah Swantz for the 3-1 halftime lead.
In the opening minutes of the second half Ours set Danga up for his second goal of the night and the 4-1 lead. Wapello began to drop the majority of their players into defensive positions making it difficult to create scoring opportunities. In spite of this Ours and Danga combined for the third time as Ours sent a ball into Danga who turned it into the net. A short time later, Ours took the ball and as defenders dropped off anticipating the pass he shot, scoring his second goal of the night. Jacob Boller finished the scoring on an assist from Isaiah Swantz on a direct kick from about 35 yards out.
IMS moves to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play. IMS travels to Central Lee of Donnelson Thursday. Saturday IMS hosts Fairfield at 10:00 am in the IMS tournament. # 9 ranked Des Moines Christian and #10 ranked Williamsburg will play in the second game at noon, followed by the consolation and championship games at 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
