Joel Brown, professor emeritus of Iowa Wesleyan University, visited the IMS campus a few weeks ago. He played bits of works by Bartok, Ravel, Schubert and Bach for the student body and faculty. He also shared about growing up in Rural Retreat, Virginia and how the tiny school had a piano teacher who taught lessons there, as far back as the 1920’s. It was a time of being thankful for the opportunity to make music and to learn from others.
After chapel, piano students from Susan See’s studio who had indicated an interest in playing, received a mini-lesson from Dr. Brown. It was a day filled with learning, listening, and playing. Thanks to Dr. Brown and to the students who worked hard to prepare their pieces.
