The Iowa Mennonite girls track and field team scored 50 points at the Hawk Co-ed Relay in Wellman Tuesday. Junior Emma Beachy won the discus with a personal best toss of 99 feet 6 inches. She also recorded a personal best in the shot put. Senior Calli Shaw placed second in the 3000 meter run missing first by .24 seconds in a personal best time of 12:31.14. This took a full minute off her previous best. Rubye Ney was third in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:14.11 in her first outdoor meet this year. Sarena Gerber placed third in the 400 meter dash with a personal best time of 1:11.45. Shaw placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a season best time of 2:47.21. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Avery Blauvelt, Mackenzie Gutierrez, Greta Schrag and Payton Hart placed fourth. The distance medley relay team of Gutierrez, Adria Ebersole, Schrag and Rachel Geyer also placed fourth. “It was a great night for a track meet and the team competed well!”
Senior Adrian Gonzales and Freshman Logan Thomas represented the boys team in Wellman. Adrian was eleventh in the long jump and placed fifteenth in the 100 meter dash in a personal best time of 12.75. Logan threw the shot put and competed in the 400 and 800 meter runs. The track and field teams compete next in Wayland at the Ekstrand Relays hosted by WACO on April 27.
