IMS 8, Central Lee 1

The IMS soccer didn’t take long to establish control over Central Lee scoring five times in the first half and clamping down defensively and in the midfield. Led by Nick Yutzy and Isaiah Swantz in the midfield, IMS pushed forward creating numerous offensive shots and chances. Seth Danga opened the scoring on an unassisted goal, cutting through the crowded box to find himself one-on-one with the goalie. Two minutes later Nick Yutzy sent a cross into Cole Ours for the 2-0 lead. Danga found the goal two more times in the half to complete his hat trick, one unassisted, the second on a crossing ball into the box from Jacob Boller which Danga redirected into the goal off his head. Isaiah Swantz tallied the other goal in in the first half on an assist from Gerardo Mendoza.

In the second half IMS continued to create good chances while Central Lee began to send more players forward despite the offensive pressure from IMS. IMS added to the score six minutes into the half as IMS earned its first corner kick of the night. Jacob Boller sent the corner kick to the far post where Mitchell Schmieder was waiting to head the ball into the net for the first varsity goal of his career. Central Lee’s efforts to create more offensive pressure paid off after a ball deflected into the path of the Central Lee player who pushed the ball into the net. Cole Ours made sure the game was out of reach, scoring on an assist from Mendoza, and seconds later on an unassisted goal to tally the second hat trick of the night.

With the win IMS moves to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. IMS hosts Fairfield in the IMS Tournament, Saturday April 29 with play beginning at 10:00 am. After the IMS match, Williamsburg will play Des Moines Christian, with the consolation and championship games to follow.
