Beginning this summer, Dr. Jason Sifford will take over the position that Susan See has held for almost thirty years at Iowa Mennonite School.
Jason brings energy, expertise, and years of teaching experience as well as a passion for composition with students in mind. Piano teachers nationwide know his name and use his compositions in their studios. Jason holds doctorate degrees in piano pedagogy and piano performance from The University of Michigan. He currently resides in Iowa City with his wife, Renee. Before moving to Iowa, he taught at Texas Tech University.
Susan got to know Jason through Iowa Music Teachers Association and observed his teaching style in IMTA master classes as he worked with some of her students. He is a favorite guest clinician of the Southeast Iowa Piano Teacher group as well as other groups throughout the state. Currently, he is the state president of IMTA, a job with many responsibilities. He teaches in his home studio and also at West Music in Coralville.
Here’s what Susan has to say about Jason: “It was very important to me to find someone who has a passion for teaching piano in a nurturing and innovative way. Our teaching philosophies are very compatible. I have great faith that the next generation of piano students at IMS will flourish. “
