The Iowa Mennonite girl’s track and field team opened their season Saturday in Pella at the Central College indoor meet. This is a large meet with a shortened order of events and unlimited team entries in each event. No team scores are kept. Sophomore Suzanna Yoder won her heat in the 400 meter dash placing fifth out of 104 with a time of 1:05.42. This is a personal best. Senior Calli Shaw also won her heat in 1:08.58 to place twenty-second. Yoder and Shaw also placed high in the 60 meter dash with times of 8.49 and 8.84 respectively. Yoder made it to the finals eventually placing tenth while Shaw placed thirty-third out of 198 athletes. Mackenzie Gutierrez and Rubye Ney joined Yoder and Shaw in the 4 x 200 meter relay to place ninth in 1:59.28. Ney was also thirteenth in the 60 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 10.64. Yoder was seventh in the long jump jumping 14 feet 2 inches. Both boy’s and girl’s track and field teams will compete March 30th in Danville.
