Last week the Chorale, which is made up of freshmen and sophomores, participated in an African drumming circle under the direction of Sheila Raim. Sheila was recently given a grant to purchase 14 African drums. She graciously accepted the invitation to come and teach the students different African drumming techniques, the use of percussion instruments, and taught the students a few songs as well. A favorite drumming piece of the students was the partner drumming. This was when two students shared the same drum. Teresa Cardenas said this about it, “I liked working with the other person to make rhythms.” The time we had together making new rhythms was enjoyed by all.
The Chorale is directed by Alisa Kandel.
