IMS dropped its final home game of the season on Friday night to the Pekin Panthers on senior night, 21-49.

IMS was shutout in the first quarter and struggled to slow down a balanced Pekin attack.  Two minutes into the second quarter IMS got on the board behind a pair of Suzanna Yoder free throws, but scoring for the young squad was tough to come by.  Yoder went on to score five more and senior Calli Shaw added a free throw before the break.  IMS headed into the locker room down 20 at the half and would not pull the game any closer.

“Pekin came ready to play tonight,” IMS head coach Kari Heusinkveld said.  “We gave them quite a battle at their place the first time around, but were unable to follow it up this evening.”  IMS shot just 18% inside the arc and turned the ball over 31 times, compared to 47% shooting and 15 turnovers during the first meeting.  “I thought our defense was good for most of the night, it was our offense that really hurt us,” Heusinkveld said.  “We did some good things, but just didn’t shoot well enough to reward ourselves.  Credit the Panthers and their coaching staff though, their 2-3 zone was very active tonight.”

Yoder led IMS with 14 points, and five rebounds.  Shaw, Mia Graber and Payton Hart each added two points, while Alyssa Hershberger rounded out the scoring with a free throw.  Shaw pulled down a team high eight rebounds and Graber finished with five.

IMS recognized senior post Calli Shaw and manager Jared Schlabaugh.  “It’s been such a joy to watch Calli grow these past two years and we’re so glad that she transferred to IMS,” Heusinkveld said.  “She’s a great kid and such a hard worker.  We will miss that strong work ethic next year.  We’re also grateful that Jared joined us this season.  He’s provided wonderful support behind the scenes to both the girls and our staff, and we’re thankful for his dedication.”

IMS traveled to Cardinal on Saturday for a cross-conference matchup with West Burlington and dropped the game 32-60.

Suzanna Yoder led IMS with 16 points, four steals and three assists.  Alyssa Hershberger and Mia Graber scored four points and grabbed eight rebounds apiece.  Payton Hart and Rubye Ney each added three points, and Calli Shaw rounded out the scoring with a bucket and nine rebounds.

IMS begins post season action at Victor, where they will face HLV on Thursday, February 9th.  Tipoff is set for 7 pm.
