Chapel Report November 28-December 2

making-blankets-147Our theme this week for chapel was ComfortED. As we think of the coming of Jesus, there is comfort in the anticipation of Jesus being present with us, God with us, Immanuel.

On Monday, we were privileged to have 15 prospective students join us for the day. For chapel, a “Pam’s Paraphrase” version of the Fiery Furnace from Daniel 3 was featured. Roman Slabach did a great job of paraphrasing the story, and an impromptu cast of willing actors acted out the scenes as they were read. Roman wrapped up the chapel with comments about how God makes good come from what we see as bad or evil.

Our chapel time on Tuesday was spent in our small groups.

Wednesday’s chapel featured Pastor Don Patterson, IMS board member and pastor of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Don told a story of a time in his life that he experienced comfort in the midst of pain. He ended with a time of Q&A and then prayer.

On Thursday, we got in our sibling family groups and worked on blankets for Project Linus. Project Linus is a nation wide organization which provides homemade blankets and comforters for children who are in need. Here is a link to their website.Project Linus

Friday’s chapel consisted of some stories of how persons experienced comfort. We viewed two I Am Second videos, one of Clayton Kershaw, LA Dodgers pitcher and one of Janelle Hail, founder of National Breast Cancer Foundation. We also heard from Cole Yoder sharing about how he found comfort in the midst of his family’s medical situation. Emma Beachy closed the chapel encouraging us to find comfort in God and to be a comfort to those around us.
