Iowa Mennonite Cross Country Results
State Cross Country Championship
At Lakeside Municipal Golf Course, Fort Dodge
October 29, 2016
Junior Levi Geyer ran the best race of his career at the state cross country meet Saturday in Fort Dodge. Geyer placed twenty-fifth overall with a time of 17:27.9. Geyer had placed thirteenth at the state qualifier meet in Cedar Rapids October 20 with a time of 17:17 on a short course to qualify for the state meet. Saturday he was the fourth finisher from the Cedar Rapids qualifier meet.
“Levi has had an excellent season! Last year he was fighting plantar fasciitis and was only able to compete several times during the cross country season. He has worked hard to manage the injury again this season to keep it from hindering his training. All his training and racing has been in training shoes as a result of his intense injury management. Levi tested spikes Thursday in practice and wore them for the race Saturday for the first time in the past two years. Geyer also implemented his race plan with precision. His mile splits were 5:38, 5:33 and 5:40 for the first, second and third miles of the race. This meant that he started near the back of the race field that normally starts very fast. He ran along the edge of the course as he passed many slowing competitors all the way to the finish line.”
