Cross country teams run at Center Point

cc-picThe Iowa Mennonite men’s cross country team placed eleventh in the twelve team field in Center Point Tuesday.  The maroon and black were two points better than Alburnett who they had lost to by 59 points at the IMS Early Bird.  Junior Levi Geyer led the team with a fifteenth place finish in 18:59.  “Levi’s first mile was his slowest and his final mile was his fastest.  The hot conditions made that feat more challenging than usual.”  Anthony Villatoro had a great race running a personal best for a full 5k placing sixty-forth in 21:45.  Jacob Boller was two places behind finishing in 22:01.  Gerardo Mendoza also turned in a personal best performance placing seventy-first in 22:55.  Seth Danga was four places back finishing in 24:18.  Micah Miller placed seventy-seventh in 25:07.  Juan Andino placed twenty-third in the JV race with a time of 22:21.  Jesse Slater had his best performance ever placing sixty-second in the JV race with a time of 25:29. Marion won the team title with 25 points led by juniors Myles Bach and Jeremy Fopma who were first and second in 16:36 and 16:37.

The Iowa Mennonite women placed eighth in the eight team field at the Bowers Athletic Complex in Center Point.  Calli Shaw led the team placing thirty-eighth in 25:18.  Mackenzie Gutierrez finished next for the team placing fifty-sixth in 29:53.  Rachel Geyer was two places behind in 30:31.  Sarena Gerber came in just three seconds after Rachel.  Greta Scrag gutted it out to finish in sixtieth place while Ainsley Shaw held down the sixty-first position.  “The varsity girls race was the first high school race of the day with the hottest conditions.  Our top four started at a pace they were able to maintain throughout the entire course.  This helped their overall results.”  Freshman Adrianna Katcher of Center Point-Urbana won the women’s race in 20:27.  She finished over thirty seconds ahead of her next competitor.  Marion won the team title with 49 points.
