IMS 0, Lone Tree 3
IMS dropped a well-played conference game to Lone Tree Wednesday afternoon. IMS outhit the Lions ten to six, but left eleven runners on base. IMS had runners in scoring position in all but the 3rd and 5th innings, but was unable to come up with a timely hit to get on the scoreboard. Lone Tree took advantage of IMS miscues to plate 3 unearned runs. Pitcher Hannah Harris threw a fine game, striking out three Lions while allowing only two extra base hits and four singles. Shortstop Calli Shaw had a strong day in the field, with four assists and no errors. Rightfielder Alyssa Gonzales made a sweet shoestring catch on a sinking line drive in the third inning to save a run.
Mia Graber had two hits on the night, including a double in the left field gap for IMS’s lone extra base hit. Suzanna Yoder, Rubye Ney and Shaw also had two hits a piece. Gonzales and Avery Blauvelt each singled to round out the IMS hitting. Lone Tree pitcher Abby Buckman did not issue a walk, and the Lone Tree defense played errorless ball until the bottom of the seventh inning when Ney reached on an error. Coach Kathryn Ney commented, “This was a very close game played by evenly matched teams. We had numerous opportunities to break the game open, but Lone Tree’s pitcher did a good job keeping our hitters off-balance in key situations. Overall, we played well in the field. We are playing with energy and confidence.”
