June 9–IMS 2  West Burlington/Notre Dame 16

IMS hosted West Burlington/Notre Dame on June 9. IMS trailed by six runs through five innings when WB/ND exploded for ten runs in the top of the sixth. “We wanted to mix things up a bit with our pitching by throwing off their batters with different speeds, but it was a premature move at this point in the season,” said Coach Kathryn Ney.  “We continue to work on reducing the number of errors we make each time we take the field.” IMS rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth when the first three batters strung together hits. Jess Bender and Hannah Harris each singled to position themselves on first and second. Alyssa Gonzales’s double to right center field plated both runners. The game ended after six innings.

For the night IMS had eight hits, led by Harris with a single and double, and Gonzalez with a double and two RBI.  Bender and Rubye Ney each hit two singles. Joya Schrock also had a single. Defensively, Avery Blauvelt threw out a runner stealing in the first inning. Suzanna Yoder played a strong third base, throwing out three batters at first.

IMS won the JV game 4-3.  Rachel Miller pitched.
