June 10–IMS 20 Waco 2 in 3 innings
Wayland–The IMS softball team scored in double figures once again, beating Waco 20-2. Every IMS batter got on base and scored at least once. IMS jumped to a powerful start with twelve runs in the first inning. Waco answered with two runs of their own. IMS picked up another run in the second and seven more in the third. The game ended after three innings.
In the batting order: Suzanna Yoder, third base, went 2-3 with one RBI and three runs scored. Rubye Ney, centerfield, went 3-4 with one RBI and three runs scored. Avery Blauvelt, catcher, went 2-2 with a powerful double, five RBI and two runs scored. Calli Shaw, shortstop, went 3-4 with one long double down the left field line, three RBI and two runs scored. Jess Bender, first base, blasted a double off the fence in left center and drove another ball deep that was caught by the center fielder running back. Hannah Harris, pitcher, also hit a powerful double in her second at-bat. Alyssa Gonzales, right field, and Joya Schrock, left field, each got singles with Gonzales scoring twice and Schrock three times. Rachel Miller, second base, topped off the line-up with a run scored.
“We were aggressive at the plate, hitting the ball hard and far, “ commented Coach Ney. “We were also aggressive on the base paths, finding ways to help advance teammates and playing a heads-up running game.” Hannah Harris took the win.
IMS also won the JV game 11-5. Joya Schrock and Rachel Miller pitched.
